• was originally born Mide Kagon, a desert tribe that worshipped Nhaama and shunned the daylight. famliy consisted of Qatun Kagon and Udutai (formally of the Qerel tribe), her parents, and Bayar (her older brother).
• Mide was an adventurous child, a trait that would ultimately cause her father to take her far from the Steppe and the remainder of her family. she did not abide by the tribe's rule of shunning the sunlight, desiring more than ever to go out and explore during the daylight hours rather than remain cooped up in her tent. thus did little Mide break the tribe's rule, embracing the evil of Azim, damning herself, and, by extension, Udutai who had followed her in the hopes of stopping Mide before she reached the daylight.
• Udutai had very little choice but to leave the clan with Mide in toe, distraught by leaving the only family she ever knew, traveling across the Steppe. a dangerous venture, it turned out, a single man and a young child were easy prey for the wilds of the Steppes and the more hostile clans. this eventually lead Udutai towards Doma then Eorzea, managing to purchase passage with what little money they had available.
• something something heard word of the Orl clan who fled to the highlands of Coerthas, deciding to travel there in the hopes to possibly integrate themselves in. something something never managed to reach said clan they had already been slaughtered by Ishgardians. they did, however, encounter Ishgardians who thought them of Dravanian descent and thusly attacked the pair.
• Udutai finally gives into the Will of Karash in an effort to protect his daughter from Ishgardian men brandishing spears at them. however the numbers are not in his favor, regardless of his strength and ferocity, and he is quickly overwhelmed. knowing full well his fate was all but decided he screamed for Mide to run as far and as fast as she could moments before a spear pierced his back.
• Mide ran as fast as her small legs her carry her, overwhelmed by a mixture of grief, fear, rage, she ran until she couldn't run anymore and collapsed from exhaustion. little did she know that in her sprint to flee her father's attackers she ran straight into the wilds of Gridania. little Mide's life would have almost ended there were it not for a pair of Duskwight scouts that stumbled upon her about to be set upon by monsters, they saved her life and determined to take her back to their subterranean home.
• the trauma of her experience let Mide mute and somewhat catatonic for some months as she recovered much to the chagrin of Arismont and Lancefer, the elezen who saved her, making it impossible to figure out where she came from or who she was.
• surprise! trauma made her memories go caput! she couldn't tell them anything even if she wanted to.
• then two idiot elezen caught feelings for this tiny auri child.
• it was those idiots who gave her the name Meara Ven, all but adopting her and raising her as their own. because sometimes a family can be two elezen idiots and a small auri child who doesn't talk for an entire year into her new life. the moment she does talk though, both idiots are brought to actual gross tears.
• they teach her everything she knows, how to fight, how to hunt, how to survive in the world around them, and eventually, she becomes their emissary to civilization so to speak. being the one who would go into Gridannia and purchase supplies for them when needed etc.
• [ muffled arr in the distance. meara discovers her like for taller men after encountering both haurchefant (who is very sweet) and estinien (who is cranky). forced to fight estinien in single combat and kicks his ass, joins the alberic offense squad from then on. oh no?? accused of regicide?? uh, all the scions are missing/dead now?? alphinaud buddy, you fucked up. ]
• [ muffled hw in the distance. meets aymeric??? :O and encounters estinien again but he is okay now? worried about the cranky one. moving to ishgard is... complicated? new dad is great but meara starts to suffer from unpleasant trauma nightmares. tries incredibly hard to hide it, but haurchefant sees through that shit so fast. makes things better/easier with hot chocolate and company. ]
• [ more muffled hw in the distance. road trip with ysayle, alphinaud, and estinien. ysayle is actually pretty cool? and nice?? so are like a lot of dragons?? who would have thought dragons are actually good and the church is bad?? church turns out to be super bad because it won't let you fuck dragons admit to being a dick and consuming one dragon's eyes and stealing another dragon's eyes. dealt with one bad dragon and church, lost haucherfant and ysayle in the process ): meara pretty depressed about it. things get worse because nidhogg took over estinein again, except now it is worse because he has two eyeballs. ]

• [ muffled AZIM STEPPE IN THE DISTANCE. literally, nothing else is important in doma but this part right here. met the mol, conquered bardam's mettle and met magnai, oh no he is fucking hot. with new giant bird in toe met sadu and the dothral, oh no she is also hot. NAADAM TIME. kicked everyone's asses and guess who is now the khagan? that's right it is meara and guess who witnessed her becoming the new khagan? that's right, HER LONG LOST BROTHER. unfortunately, she did not recognize him during everything mostly in part to the fact there was a lot going on however once the garleans were kicked off the steppe and things calmed down a bit bayar approached her. this reunion... did not go well. meara's memories of her family were lost the day her father was killed and she fled into the forests of gridania, after all, and now she is being approached by an au ra man claiming to be her older brother and calling her mide. ]
• [ muffled AZIM STEPPE IN THE BACKGROUND 2. the encounter with bayar ends with the echo reacting to his desperate pleas and shows meara a scene from her childhood, from before she and her father left their clan. the memory proves too overwhelming for her and she immediately passes the hell out from it. she is then taken back to the dawn throne to recover before the assault on doma castle can begin in earnest. bayar is at her side when she awakes, beyond relieved to see her up again, and she explains to him that she has no memory of her childhood before the day she was found in the forests of gridania. but having met him and seen a snippet of their past thanks to the echo, some of those memories have returned. she knows him as her brother but remembers very little else. the two embrace in a tearful reunion, meara overjoyed by the fact she still has living family members. he tells her of their mother and their father, who has been missing ever since he was forced to leave the village, but not so much that it will overwhelm her. there is little time to indulge as meara has more pressing matters to attend to, having to promise bayar she will return once the threat of the empire has been quashed. time to invade doma castle! ]
